Working With Vellum
-
If you are printing on vellum use light vellum. For dry embossing use heavy vellum.
-
When printing on vellum feel both sides to determine which side is smoother. Print on the less smooth side of the paper. When you get ready to print there will be a button, middle top, of the print screen that says, properties. Click on the button, click on drop down for paper type and select transparency film. If the printed vellum is still taking a long time to dry you may try using your embossing heat gun (carefully, it will warp) to dry it.
-
To print on one of those leftover 1/2 sheets first print on a plain sheet of paper. Tape the vellum securely over the printed area exactly in the position where vellum should be printed. Be sure the vellum is securely attached so it won't become detached and ruin your printer. Send the piece of paper with the vellum attached back through the printer and print. You're getting good now, huh?
-
Adhering vellum is not easy. If the vellum is printed try putting glue (like Two-Way Glue) directly under the letters. If you are going to be layering put adhesive where it will be covered by other pieces. For smaller pieces you can use your Xyron machine. For larger pieces you can use 3M Spray Mount outside. This is not acid-free. Spray the back of the piece of vellum then allow it to dry. Do not spray your fingers, clothing, furniture, carpets, children, pets, etc. Follow can instructions for cleaning. Once the adhesive is dry adhere it to your page.
-
For attaching vellum to card stock with no visible adhesive marks, try Vellum Tape. Use a very small piece on each corner. Or use a rectangular hole punch through the vellum and the card stock, then tie the vellum to the card stock with ribbon. (Submitted by Marianne of West Hills, CA)
