Adding Texture

  1. Get a nice piece of printed paper wet (you can put it in a bowl of water), then wad it up loosely so you can undo it without tearing it and iron it (without steam). You can intentionally add creases with the iron and small tears will not ruin the effect.
  2. Wad up an image that you have torn out without using water then just flatten it out with your hands. Use make-up wedges, a cut up kitchen sponge or a craft sponge to chalk the image if desired.
  3. Using fine sand paper sand stickers, paper, metal pieces, etc. to give them a weathered look. After you sand it you can leave it, chalk it, use water colors to add a second color, daubers, or stain it. All coloring and tinting items are in the basics section of the store. For metal you can add color using paint that is lead free and works on metal or heat embossing.
  4. Use heat embossing to add texture to any project. If your are embossing on metal rough the surface up first with sand paper. For more information on heat embossing see the heat embossing section. You'll find supplies under Basics - Heat Embossing.
